Giffgaff is entering the broadband market with the launch of a new Full Fibre service. As part of a limited trial, the network is offering 500Mbps broadband for just £10/month, and inviting up to 500 people to test it out and provide feedback – with a £100 reward for those who take part.

What is happening?

Giffgaff is about to do for broadband what it did for mobile – shake things up. The network has launched a trial of a new Full Fibre broadband service, aimed at delivering fast, simple, no-nonsense internet to UK homes. Trialists will get 500Mbps speeds for just £10/month for 12 months, and in return, Giffgaff is asking for feedback to help shape the final product. There's also a £100 reward for those who take part.

The trial uses the latest XGS-PON fibre technology, running on nexfibre’s infrastructure and, in future, the Virgin Media O2 network. This is big news: Giffgaff is the first brand to use Virgin Media O2’s new wholesale broadband service, marking a major step in broadband competition against BT and other providers.

Why broadband – and why now?

Giffgaff says the move is a natural evolution. After years of delivering low-cost, flexible mobile plans and building a community-led brand, it's now turning its attention to broadband. Their own research shows that 37 million UK adults have been impacted by broadband service issues – so they’re aiming to build something better.

CEO Ash Schofield put it simply: “We know people are frustrated with their broadband – so we’re combining top tech with customer power to build something better.”

What do you get in the trial?

  • Broadband speed: 500Mbps Full Fibre using XGS-PON – perfect for heavy streaming, gaming, and big households
  • Price: £10/month for 12 months – a serious saving on typical fibre costs
  • Reward: A £100 bonus for taking part and providing feedback – paid in two £50 instalments
  • Tech: Powered by nexfibre now, and Virgin Media O2’s award-winning network later
  • Involvement: Trialists help shape the service by sharing their experience with Giffgaff

This isn’t a long-term contract or a standard deal. It’s a one-year pilot, and Giffgaff is very clear that they want feedback to help develop a product that works better for customers.

Where is it available?

Right now, the trial is only available in select areas where nexfibre’s network is live. If Full Fibre isn’t yet available at your address, you won’t be able to join just yet – but Giffgaff is asking people to register interest anyway to help them plan future rollouts.

If you want to check if you're eligible or fancy putting your name down, you can register here.

Who’s behind the network?

This trial is made possible through Giffgaff’s connection to Virgin Media O2, which in turn has partnered with nexfibre – a wholesale fibre network backed by Liberty Global, Telefónica, and InfraVia Capital Partners. It means Giffgaff’s broadband service is underpinned by serious infrastructure and investment, even if the brand itself feels more like a disruptor than a telecoms giant.

How is this different from other broadband providers?

This is Giffgaff doing what it’s known for – launching services with the community front and centre. Just like its mobile plans, Giffgaff Broadband will likely be:

  • No-frills: Expect clear pricing, no hidden fees, and simple choices
  • No mid-contract price hikes: Giffgaff says customers won’t face unexpected increases – a welcome change from most providers
  • People-powered: The product is being shaped by early customers, not boardroom execs
  • Trial-first: You don’t have to take a risk – they want your help before the full launch

It also marks a major change in how broadband can be sold: instead of locking you into a high-cost package full of features you don’t use, Giffgaff seems to be focused on simplicity and fairness.

The bigger picture

Giffgaff entering the broadband market could be a game-changer. Backed by major fibre networks and committed to customer-first thinking, this could give frustrated broadband users a serious alternative to the big names. If all goes well, the trial could lead to a wider rollout – meaning more choice, better service, and fairer prices for everyone.

What we think

Giffgaff has always done things differently – and broadband looks like it’ll be no exception. This trial is an opportunity to be part of something new: a broadband service built with and for its customers. If you've ever been fed up with your internet service and wished you could build your own from scratch, this might just be your chance.

Keep an eye on giffgaff’s broadband trial page to register now to be part of the trial while spots are still available.
