Sky Glass Gen 2 TV in Atlantic Blue

Sky has announced the new Sky Glass Gen 2, an upgraded version of its all-in-one TV. The new model has a brighter 4K HDR screen and a better built-in sound system with seven speakers. Sky says these upgrades make watching TV even more immersive.

What’s new with Sky Glass Gen 2?

Sky says the new version of Sky Glass has a brighter 4K Quantum Dot display, making everything look sharper and more colourful. It also improves contrast, so dark areas look darker and bright areas pop more. The viewing angle has been improved too, meaning the picture should stay clear no matter where you sit in the room.

The TV also has updated picture modes, designed to match what you’re watching. Whether it's movies, sports, or music videos, Sky says the TV will tweak the settings automatically to give the best possible picture.

Better sound, no extra kit needed

Sky has also improved the sound on Sky Glass Gen 2. The TV now has seven built-in speakers, including a soundbar and dual subwoofers. This means deeper bass, clearer voices, and more surround-sound effects. Sky says this setup makes everything from action movies to live sports sound bigger and better.

Because the soundbar is built-in, there’s no need to buy extra speakers or a separate sound system. Sky claims this saves customers around 30% compared to buying a separate UHD TV and soundbar. However, don't get your hopes up for spectacular cinema-quality audio. Built-in speakers are never going to compete with a decent outboard speaker setup with an amp.

Designed to fit your home

The new Sky Glass comes in three sizes – 43”, 55”, and 65” – and three new colours: Volcanic Grey, Arctic Silver, and Atlantic Blue. Sky says these options have been chosen to match modern interiors.

The remote control is now colour-matched to the TV, and even the speaker fascia has been updated to blend in better. Sky has also redesigned the stand, making it easier to set up with a simple slide-on design – no tools or screws needed. If you prefer wall mounting, there’s a new optional mount that tilts, swivels, and sits flush against the wall.

Sky OS

Sky Glass, both Gen 1 and Gen 2, runs on Sky OS, which brings together content from Sky and your streaming apps into one interface. Sky says the system learns what you like to watch and suggests new shows based on your viewing habits, but in our experience that can be a double-edged sword because what it chooses to show you also means there is a vast quantity of content it chooses not to.

With the Playlist feature, you can save shows and movies from Sky and other apps in one place. Sky says it will even keep track of future episodes, even if they move to a different channel or streaming service.

Voice control is also built in, so you can search for shows, change the volume, or control playback just by saying 'Hello Sky'.

More ways to buy

Sky Glass Gen 2 is available from 12 February (tomorrow), with prices starting at £14 per month for the 43” model, £19 per month for the 55”, and £24 per month for the 65”. You can pay upfront or spread the cost with interest-free monthly payments, but bear in mind the contracts are long to give you time to pay off the cost of the TV,

There are also flexible TV subscription options. A 24-month contract offers the best price, while a 31-day rolling contract gives more flexibility, but will mean buying the TV up-front.

Sky Glass Air is coming soon

Later this year, Sky will also launch Sky Glass Air, a more affordable version of Sky Glass. It will have a 4K Quantum Dot HDR screen, but with a slightly simpler speaker setup—just 2.0 stereo speakers with basic stereo Dolby Audio.

Like Sky Glass Gen 2, it will run on Sky OS and include voice controls. It will come in three colours – Carbon Grey, Cotton White, and Sea Green – and in the same three sizes. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet.

Sky Glass Air will sit alongside Sky Glass Gen 2 and Sky Stream, giving you more options to choose from to suit your budget.

What we think

Sky Glass Gen 2 is an improvement on the original, with better picture quality and upgraded sound. For those looking for an all-in-one TV that doesn’t need a dish or extra sound system, this could be a good option.

The new design tweaks also make it easier to set up, and the range of colours is a nice touch. Sky’s flexible pricing and subscription options also make it more accessible.

However, Sky Glass still relies entirely on streaming, which means you’ll need a decent-ish broadband connection for the best experience (not a problem for most households). If your internet speed truly bad, you might run into buffering issues though, so be aware.

For those who already have a separate sound system or prefer to use their own streaming devices, Sky Glass might not be as appealing as simply buying a high quality TV set and adding Sky Stream. But for anyone looking for a simple, stylish TV with everything built in, it’s a solid choice.
