Virgin Media Max Volt: Is it really worth the money?

Dan Howdle • December 9th, 2025

Virgin Max Volt

Virgin Media’s Max Volt bundle isn’t subtle about what it is – the biggest, loudest, most everythingest broadband, TV and mobile bundle it offers. It’s gigabit broadband, top-tier TV, Sky Cinema, Sky Sports, Netflix, and an unlimited O2 SIM all rolled into one. The kind of package that makes you think 'blimey, that’s… a lot'. And of course it comes with a price tag to match.

It’s expensive. You’ll see the monthly price and instinctively wonder who on earth wants to pay that. But hold on: if you’re someone who actually needs fast broadband, premium TV and an unlimited mobile SIM, Max Volt quietly turns into one of the best value deals in the country. And to prove it, we’re going to break down what you get, what it would cost to buy it all individually, and ultimately whether the Max Volt bundle is genuinely worth your money.

Virgin Max Volt – what you get

Max Volt is Virgin Media's top bundle – built for people who want everything including the kitchen sink: gigabit broadband, a full-fat TV service with a high-quality set-top box, Netflix and access to premium channels, and an unlimited mobile SIM, all rolled into one monthly bill. It isn’t a budget option. Obviously it’s not trying to be. But if you need it all, the fact of the matter is it is by far the cheapest way to get it.

And it's supported by 'Volt' perks like a speed boost (essentially paying for M500, but getting Gig1) and WiFi guarantees with optional WiFi Pods if you need them. Here's a full overview of what you get. It's a lot, so it helps to stand back a bit and take a look at the whole before we look at the value on offer.

Max Volt is amazing value – and we can prove it

Max Volt looks expensive at first glance – it is in fact Virgin Media's most expensive bundle, but with good reason. But that number only makes sense when you compare it to what you'd pay for the same services individually. Because Max Volt isn't just broadband with TV bolted on – it's broadband, premium TV, sports, movies, Netflix, an unlimited O2 SIM and a small cadre of useful and otherwise-pricey extras. When you break those components apart, the value becomes very obvious.

Below we’ll compare the Max Volt monthly price to the equivalent cost of buying each part separately. Even using conservative pricing estimates, the bundle almost always comes out dramatically cheaper than sourcing everything individually.

The component breakdown table

Here’s how the Max Volt components stack up when purchased separately:

Component Max Volt Price Price bought separately
Gig1 Fibre Broadband (1130Mbps + Volt speed boost) Included £29.99
Virgin TV 360 + 230+ channels Included £16
Sky Cinema HD Included £21
Sky Sports HD Included £31.75
Netflix (Standard with ads) Included £5.99
O2 Unlimited SIM – calls, texts & data Included £15
Volt WiFi Guarantee, up to 3 WiFi Max Pods Included £8

Total monthly value comparison

  • Buying everything individually: £127.73
  • Max Volt bundle price: £84.99 per month

You don't need to be particularly hot on your maths to see that if you need everything it offers, Max Volt delivers it for far, far less than paying for it all separately. This is why we recommend Max Volt if you're in the market – because in terms of value for money, it's literally unbeatable. But who exactly is it for? Is it you? Let's take a look.

Who is Max Volt actually for?

Max Volt isn’t aimed at cheap deal hunters – that much should be clear. It's not cheap, but it's designed for those of you who want everything Virgin Media has to offer without having to build it – expensively – piece by piece. We've established that if you're going to use the extremely fast broadband, TV, sports, cinema, mobile SIM and all the other benefits, the value is huge. Max Volt is for…

  • Heavy streamers and busy households where multiple devices hammer your connection daily
  • Sport and movies lovers who want Sky Sports and Sky Cinema without overpaying
  • Those of you who would prefer your broadband and mobile on one bill
  • Anyone who just wants the premium, all-in setup without paying an absurd monthly sum

When it’s not worth it

It’s easy to look at Max Volt and think 'that’s everything I’ll ever need – job done'. And for some of you that's going to be true. But the flip side is getting everything then finding you only actually use half of what’s included. Especially if you end up not really making use of the most premium parts of the bundle (gigabit broadband, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema), that 'value' is shot to bits.

Some of you will get Max Volt then find…

  • You don’t watch Sky Sports or Sky Cinema (these are two of the biggest costs)
  • You don’t need an O2 mobile SIM (already have one you’re happy with)
  • You only really need broadband and basic TV – Max Volt would be extreme overkill
  • You’re a light internet user and won’t benefit from gigabit speeds or WiFi extender pods

To be clear: Max Volt is incredible value when you need everything it offers. If you don’t, a cheaper bundle or even broadband only could be a better financial move in the long run. For example, you could get mid-tier broadband from Virgin Media (like M500), add on Sky Stream and pay a lot less than Max Volt.

Alternatives

Max Volt is the everything-and-the-kitchen-sink bundle. Perfect if you really do want premium broadband, full-fat TV, every Sky Sports and Sky Cinema channel, Netflix, WiFi Pods and an unlimited O2 SIM. But if you like the look of what Virgin Media offers, but don’t need all of it, there are cheaper ways.

Virgin Media offers plenty of alternatives that keep the fast broadband and TV platform, but strip out the movie/sports packs or the SIM, meaning you only pay for what you'll genuinely use. Here are three examples. Just bear in mind there are plenty more permutations available, most of which you'll be able to browse using our Virgin Media comparison.

1. Virgin Media M250 Fibre Broadband Volt

• £33.99 per month • No upfront cost

Get M250 fibre, then supercharge it with Volt for a free speed boost, double O2 data & a WiFi guarantee. Add Flex for 150+ TV channels and streaming apps as a flexible deal. The ultimate entertainment bundle.

2. Virgin Media M350 Entertainment + Netflix

• £37.99 per month • No upfront cost

Virgin Media's middle-tier speed comes here with a bundled in Netflix subscription, over 200 channels either via the traditional cable box (TV 360) or the newer streaming box (Virgin Flex). You get to choose. There's no upfront cost and you're going to be tied in for 24 months total.

3. Virgin Media M350 Sport HD + Netflix

£125 Bill Credit • £59.99 per month • No upfront cost

Bottom line

Virgin Max Volt isn't for small households or those containing light or casual consumers of bandwidth or entertainment – it’s the full works. If you want gigabit broadband, premium TV with everything bolted on, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, Netflix, WiFi Pods and an unlimited O2 SIM all under one bill, nothing else currently delivers that combination for anywhere close to the price. The moment you break it all apart into its pieces, the astonishing value of Max Volt is obvious.

But like any 'everything' package, the value only exists if you’ll genuinely use it all regularly. If you don’t need sport, catch a film or two a month at best, already have a mobile SIM you're happy with or simply won’t benefit from broadband that quick, one of Virgin’s other bundles may suit you far better.

But if you do want everything, Max Volt is it, and at a great price.
