BT’s Fibre 2 has long been the provider’s best sellling broadband package. However that's starting to change now, with the accelerated rollout of the faster FTTP network, meaning many people are now offered the slightly quicker (and almost identally named) Full Fibre 2.
Fibre 2 was once BT's premium option, and one of the fastest widely available broadband packages in the UK (excepting Virgin Media's broadband, which then wasn't an option for most people). And, for a significant minority, BT's Fibre 2 is still the fastest option the country's number one provider can offer. So, assuming your property isn't in an area where FTTP isn't available, then Fibre 2 remains the fastest BT broadband available and offers a respectable download speed averaging at 67Mbps. If that's you, then you can expect to see average downloads of about 67Mbps which, while no longer the blistering speed it once was, is still no slouch and probably adequate for the needs of most households. It remains a solid choice for everyone from semi-serious gamers to larger family homes with numerous devices. You'll also get the benefit of BT's Stay Fast Guarnatee which should give additional peace of mind that you'll reliably see those speeds. Here, we take a look at what kind of activities 67Mbps can support and what else you get with the BT Fibre 2 package.
Here’s a brief summary of the stats behind BT's Fibre 2 broadband.

BT Fibre 2 offers a 67Mbps download speed, with unlimited downlaods and no fair usage limits – which is fairly standard these days. It comes with the BT Smart Hub 2, a more than capable router that'll comfortably support several devices both over wifi. Customers who choose to pay extra can upgrade to Complete Wifi which will provide a smart Wi-Fi Disc, and up to three complimentary discs if you need them. You'll be able to optimise your coverage with the MyBT app and, if you're still not seeing the wifi coverage you expect, you can claim £100 back from BT.
Customers signing to BT Fibre 2 automatically get free security software in the form of BT Web Protect. It'll protect any device that's connected to your Smart Hub from things like phishing attacks, viruses, and trojans. You'll see a warning before you visit a potentially harmful site, plus it also blocks pop-ups and scans your emails to protect against spyware.
In addition there's also BT Virus Protect, which is designed to protect your devices and identity from various threats like viruses, spyware, and phishing scams. It has features such as a firewall, email phishing scam warning system, and identity theft protection. It works on a pay-per-device, and you'll receive two licences to use as you choose. If you wish to secure additonal devices, you can pay extra to get up to 15 licences.
BT Virus Protect protects individual devices from viruses and spyware. Customers can also choose to download Norton Password Manager, which enables you to create and store complex passwords in one place to keep all your personal information secure. This has replaced True Key from McAfee, which BT previoulsy offered.
As standard, all BT broadband packages come with BT Parental Controls which are designed to protect youngsters from content ranging from social media to pornography, The controls come with a choice of three settings: Moderate, Light and Strict, which parents can then adapt accordingly if they wish.
There are over five million BT Wifi hotspots scattered around the country which BT broadband customers can take advantage of when away from home – locations range from stations and airports to hotels and shops. You'll just need to download the BT wifi app, which will enable your device to automatically connect to a hotspot whenever it is in range. If you don't have unlimited mobile data, this can be a valuable adddtion.
BT Fibre 2 offers a respectable download speed that will comfortably support a generous amount of devices in a busy family home. And for many, it's still be best option avaiable. From a major provider, at least. It comes with solid security software and customers have the option to bundle in calls and even a BT TV package if they wish. BT TV is a well-priced TV service which comes with Netflix and NOW TV entertainment as standard.
Fibre 2 does, however, come on a 24-month contract and that's considerably longer than the 18 months offered by comparable providers. It's also not the always the cheapest package around (although pricing does change regularly and there's almost always a virtual reward card offered to sweeten the deal). But considering extras like the excellent router, speed guarantee, free wifi hotspots and security software, we think it offers great value.
