Best Virgin Media broadband deals

Virgin have brought the bill credit back, but it ends 5th November!

Virgin Media have recently reintroduced bill credits to some of their packages, and that means there's a £80 bill credit on their popular M250 fibre broadband package. And that's just been increased a little from the credit offered just last week. Priced at only £28.99 per month, over an 24-month contract, this means you'll have no bills to pay for the first two months, and just a few pounds for month three. That's an effective monthly cost of just £29.98 per month once the credit is taken into account (and accounting for the two annual price rises). We're expecting this offer to end at midnight on November 5th 2025, so right now might be a great time to snap up this excellent value package.

Virgin Media’s M250 Full Fibre broadband is a real sweet spot when it comes to speed – fast enough for just about anything the average household needs, without going overboard on price or speed. With average downloads of 264Mbps, it sits neatly around the current UK average broadband speed, making it ideal for families or shared homes where everyone’s streaming, gaming, and working online at once. There just aren't all that many households for which M250 won't be fast enough, and it's inexpensive. We're actually amazed it isn't Virgin Media's most popular package.

For most households, this is the Goldilocks package: not so slow as to frustrate, and not so fast as to be wasting money on speed you're not going to need.

Why Virgin Media M250 is great value

Virgin Media’s M250 broadband hits a perfect middle ground between price and performance. At £28.99 per month on a 24-month contract, it offers average download speeds of 264Mbps, which is plenty for most households. Easily fast enough for smooth 4K streaming, video calls, gaming, and large downloads all happening at once. The only common reason to go faster, in fact, is if you download a lot of large videogames and you're quite impatient.

The £80 bill credit is applied directly to your first few bills. That effectively wipes out your first two months of payments and discounts month three, bringing the average cost down even further. Combined with zero setup fees and a fixed price until March 2026, it’s one of the best mid-range broadband offers around right now.

While Virgin Media does have faster options like the M500 and Gig1 packages, M250 broadband is a well-balanced pick for most of us.

M250 Full Fibre broadband is the Goldilocks package

Virgin Media’s M250 broadband gives you average download speeds of 264Mbps, putting it right around the current UK household average for broadband. It’s quick enough for families or shared homes where several people are streaming, gaming, or working online at the same time without paying for speeds you’ll probably never use.

If you’re coming from a slower Standard Fibre or, God-forbid, ADSL package, the upgrade will feel enormous. Large apps and game downloads that used to take an hour or more can be done in minutes, and multiple 4K streams will run side by side without so much as a stutter. Upload speeds are solid here too (25Mbps), so video calls, file backups and cloud syncing are going to be smooth and reliable.

Sure, it’s not the fastest broadband Virgin Media offers, but that’s the beauty of it. M250 broadband hits the perfect, mid-range sweet spot for not much money.

Virgin Media Hub 5

It seems that as of October 2025, Virgin Media now supplies the Hub 5 (Wi-Fi 6) with Full Fibre 250 as standard. It’s a big step up in terms of Wi-Fi performance compared to Virgin's older kit and includes a faster 2.5Gbps Ethernet port alongside its standard Gigabit ports.

Hub 3 is now only supplied with Virgin Media’s slowest tiers, and Hub 4 is long-discontinued. If you’re renewing your contract, upgrading to Full Fibre 250, and still have a Hub 3, you can (and should) ask Virgin Media to swap it for a Hub 5.

Virgin Media Hub 5 specs at a glance:

Feature Specification
Wi-Fi version Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
Bands 2.4GHz & 5GHz
Ethernet ports One 2.5Gbps, three 1Gbps
Modem mode Supported
USB ports None
Antennas Seven

The Hub 5 will be more than enough for most homes on its own, with faster Wi-Fi and better wired options than earlier Virgin Media routers. Larger properties or those with thicker walls may still benefit from adding Virgin’s optional Wi-Fi pods, which extend coverage as a mesh network. For the majority of households though, the Hub 5 included with Gig1 is fast and ready to handle whatever you want to throw at it.

How installation works with Virgin Media M250

Virgin Media runs its own broadband network rather than relying on Openreach, so the installation process is a little different to most other providers. If your property has already had Virgin Media services before, there may be an existing connection point inside your home. In that case, Virgin can often send the Hub 5 out in the post for a self-install, and you’ll just need to plug it in and activate it online. Most new customers will need a new connection, though.

If your home hasn’t been connected to Virgin Media before, or if the existing socket isn’t usable, Virgin will arrange an engineer visit. This usually involves running a cable from the street cabinet to your property and fitting a Virgin Media wall socket indoors. In some cases this may mean drilling a small, tidy hole through an external wall to feed the cable inside. The engineer will then set up your Hub 5 and make sure everything is working before leaving.

To add a bit of additional complexity, where available Virgin Media is insisting on installing its new pure fibre network, which differs greatly from its traditional cable network. So you could find yourself in a situation where Virgin Media will install a brand new line into your home even when you already have a Virgin Media socket available, swapping out the old for the new. It's a sensible move on Virgin Media's part and better future-proofs your home for faster speeds at a later date.

Zero upfront costs

Virgin Media doesn’t charge anything extra on your M250 package at sign-up. Installation, activation, and the Hub 5 router are all included in the monthly price, and there’s no delivery fee for the router either. So when your first bill arrives, you’ll only see the standard monthly cost you agreed to – nothing added on top.

That might sound like a small detail, but it does set Virgin apart from some other providers who still tack on setup fees of £30 or more. With M250, you can be confident that the price you sign up for is exactly what you’ll pay, with zero surprises on your first bill.

Why Virgin Media is one of the best providers

Virgin Media is different from most other UK broadband providers because it runs on its own network rather than simply using Openreach like all the other national providers. It means it isn’t limited by the same pace of rollout or speed caps, and can offer packages like M250 in some areas where rivals are still stuck on much slower Standard Fibre connections. The upshot is that for many households, Virgin is the only way to get these kinds of speeds right now.

Another point in Virgin’s favour is how well it marries broadband, TV and mobile. If you want everything on one bill, Virgin’s bundles let you combine fast broadband with TV packages that include Sky channels, the option to add premium channel bundles, and streaming apps. Few providers can match that level of integration, which makes Virgin Media particularly appealing if you’re after an all-in-one package. And Virgin really is the only provider right now that allows you to get broadband, phone, TV and mobile all in one bundle.

Virgin Media also supplies a very good router as standard. The Hub 5 comes with Wi-Fi 6, something providers like BT and Sky still hold back for top-end packages or paid add-ons. It’s designed to handle multiple high-demand devices at once, so big families and shared households can get more from their connection without having to pay extra for more advanced kit. Virgin Media’s appeal goes well beyond raw speed or value for money. For more detail, check out our Virgin Media Broadband review.

How do I claim my £80 bill credit?

Basically, £80 is taken off your Virgin Media bills automatically once your broadband is active. There’s nothing to submit or redeem. So, your first bill is paid and the remainder then rolls onto the following bills until the full £80 is used. So that means the first few months are free, with the next month being reduced. Since it's part of your bill, you can also use the credit against Virgin’s on-demand entertainment. Spend it all on movies if you want, that's up to you.

  • Order M250 broadband online using this link
  • Wait for activation – the credit appears on your account automatically
  • The discount is applied to your first few bills

Bill credits can’t be taken as cash and are limited to one per household. If you cancel before activation, no credit is applied. Seems obvious to say but we know what you money savers are like.

How does M250 compare to other deals?

It's always wise to take a look around at what alternatives are out there before committing to a new broadband deal. So, with that in mind, here are a couple of comparable packages from other major providers:

  • BT Full Fibre 300: Offering a slightly faster 300Mbps for £30.99 per month over a 24-month contract (and probably more widely available), it's also slightly more expensive than M125. Although it is currently offered with a £60 virtual reward card.
  • Plusnet Full Fibre 300: Another 300Mbps package, offered at £29.99 per month and also on a 24-month contract. No setup fee, and using the same network as BT, but right now with a really generous £140 reward card.
